Kleňha, Petr ; Mravcová, Marie (advisor) ; Holý, Jiří (referee)
Metamorphoses of Narrator in Novels of Jaromír John This diploma paper focuses on the function of the narrator and his various forms in John's prosaic work. It deals with the issue of the construction of the fictional world and how the narrator influences the reader's understanding of the described events. Primarily, we try to compare the narrative categories of the main contemporary concepts as influenced by Shlomith Rimmon-Kenan, Franz Stanzel and Lubomír Doležel. It is our terminology base. Theoretical understanding of the narrator is the basis for the analysis of John's fiction from the aspect of narrative types applied to a selected sample of author's works: the anthology of the tales with war theme Večery na slamníku, novels Moudrý Engelbert, Výbušný zlotvor, Pampovánek, Honda Cibulků; marginally Estét and other works. Concurrently this work aims to describe construction methods that are typical for John's creative style - it is mainly the use of irony, the principle of collage and documentary elements. It shows that the author's work at that time belonged to the experimental stream of Czech prose. Also, we observe the relationship between author's prose work and his aesthetic concept. We hope that we were able to, at least partially, explain the literary style of Jaromir John. His importance and...

Beshirová Idris, Esther ; Hájek, Roman (advisor) ; Čeňková, Jana (referee)
In this thesis I deal with three literary reportages from the collection Pánbůh zaplať by the Polish journalist and writer Wojciech Tochman who represents the Polish School of Reportage. These are the reportages Člověk, který vstal z kolejí, Vzteklý pes and Mojžíšův keř. I focus on what kind of narrative techniques Tochman uses in the process of writing reportages, what kind of function they have and if the usage of these narrative techniques influences the trustworthiness of a literary reportage. In the case studies I analyze every reportage with the help of a one chosen narrative technique. In the reportage Člověk, který vstal z kolejí I focus on the narrative gaps, in Vzteklý pes I deal with the usage of focalisation and in Mojžíšův keř is the main focus the storytelling through characters. Literary analyses show that the narrative techniques are used for better coherence and impresivness of Tochman's texts. These techniques help to express experiences of described characters and allow an independent interpretation to the reader. They are also used as references to important social phenomenona which enable to Tochman to bring universal testimony about the subjects of literary reportages. The thesis also deals with the problem of the trusthworthiness of literary reportages which leads to an...

The topic of German's transfer in German novels in contrast with the Czech literature
Škubalová, Marta ; Petrbok, Václav (advisor) ; Zbytovský, Štěpán (referee)
English This study concerns the German language literary works in which the transfer of Germans from Czechoslovakia is the central theme with further comparison to Czech works. It centers on an analysis of the descriptive perspective of Gérard Genette and the question if the characters are portrayed stereotypically. As in the Czech, the German works exhibit a deviation from historical events and a similar tendency toward changes in the descriptive perspective from an external to internal focus. Most often, the German characters appear as involuntary heroes, not as Nazis. The fate of women and children is portrayed in a similar way - as victims of violence. However, in German works the ethnic background of the character plays no role.

SEVERA, Tomáš

First, it pursues the individual axis of research of a literary characters ? in their relation to the plot and its superiority or subordination, its way of existence as a textualized human being or as a text function inseparable from a literary work, in the final chapter then, it deals with the comparative study of literary characters and resulting various typologies formed by Edward Morgan Forster, Joseph Ewen and Daniela Hodrová. Before that, the thesis presents concepts of literary character of some significant authors, from Aristotle through Russian formalists, French structuralists and Seymour Chatman to linguistically inspired narrative grammars of Vladimir Jakovlevič Propp and Julien Greimas. Afterwards, the contributions of Tzvetan Todorov, Gérard Genette, Franz Karl Stanzel and Seymour Chatman to the problem of focalization are concerned. In chapter seven the thesis deals with the ways of characterization of characters in literary works or art. Finally, in the last chapter it sees the literary character at background of theory of fictional worlds.
